Entenmann’s Donut Cakes: Cinnamon & Sugar and Double Chocolate Chip Review

Today, Kevin and I are excited to try some Entenmann’s Donut Cakes. We picked up two flavors: Double Chocolate Chip and Cinnamon and Sugar, each priced at $5.69 at Kroger. These are the only two flavors available, which is a rare find in our area where Entenmann products are typically limited to the same few offerings.

Packaging and Presentation

The packaging is straightforward. The donuts come individually wrapped for freshness, which makes them convenient for on-the-go snacking. Each box contains six donuts, with each donut being 270 calories.

Double Chocolate Chip Donut Cake

The Double Chocolate Chip donut cake is impressively soft, almost like a cake rather than a traditional donut. The texture includes a slightly crunchy drizzle on top and firmer chocolate chip pieces scattered throughout. While the flavor is rich, approaching a devil's food cake in intensity, it doesn't quite reach that level of darkness. Despite being 270 calories, it feels light and airy, much like a cake, and less dense than traditional fried donuts.

Cinnamon and Sugar Donut Cake

The Cinnamon and Sugar donut cake offers a fluffy, spongy texture reminiscent of a Twinkie but without the rubberiness. The sugar crystals on the outside add a pleasant texture, complementing the overall moistness of the cake. It's mildly sweet, making it a versatile option for pairing with coffee or milk. This flavor, though less sweet than a typical coffee cake, is enjoyable for its balanced sweetness.

Nutritional Considerations

Each donut cake, at 270 calories, might be a bit high for some considering their light, airy texture. Compared to candy bars or traditional donuts, these cakes offer a different value proposition in terms of satiety and flavor experience. While they might not be ideal for a calorie-conscious breakfast, they serve well as a snack or a lighter dessert.

Final Thoughts

Both flavors have their merits. The Double Chocolate Chip offers a rich, slightly dark chocolate experience, while the Cinnamon and Sugar provides a pleasant, mild sweetness with a nice texture from the sugar crystals. Personally, I prefer the Cinnamon and Sugar for its lighter flavor profile, whereas Kevin leans towards the Double Chocolate Chip for its richer taste.

Conclusion

If you're interested in trying something new from Intamin, these donut cakes are worth a try. They provide a nice variation from the usual offerings and can serve as a snack at any time of the day. Let us know if you've tried them and which flavor you prefer!
