Hammond's Candy Bars: Fudge Brownie, Banana Crunch, and Lemon Meringue

Today, Kevin and I are reviewing some Hammond's candy bars. We picked up the Fudge Brownie, Banana Crunch, and Lemon Meringue varieties from Jungle Jim's International Market in Ohio for $3.49 each. We've tried many Hammond's products before, including their popcorn, so we're excited to see how these candy bars compare.

Fudge Brownie Candy Bar

The Fudge Brownie candy bar is a milk chocolate bar with brownie filling, weighing 2.25 oz (64g). Each bar contains two servings, with half a bar (32g) being 160 calories. This candy bar, made in Denver, Colorado, has a golden wrapper reminiscent of a golden ticket.

Upon tasting, the middle section of the bar was unexpectedly chewy, almost taffy-like. While the flavor was acceptable, it lacked the rich, luxurious chocolate taste we were hoping for. The brownie filling didn't stand out and tasted similar to the rest of the bar, making it a bit of a disappointment. Overall, it felt like just another milk chocolate bar with a slightly softer center.

Banana Crunch Candy Bar

Next, we tried the Banana Crunch candy bar, which combines milk chocolate with banana chips, crisp rice, and freeze-dried bananas. This bar has 170 calories per half serving.

The initial taste was a blend of chocolate and banana chips, with the crisp rice adding a crunchy texture. However, it seemed like they used rice cereal to cut costs, which felt a bit like a money-saving tactic. The banana flavor was natural and not overly sweet, making it a decent bar, but not particularly special.

Lemon Meringue Candy Bar

Lastly, we tried the Lemon Meringue candy bar, made with white chocolate and lemon meringue filling. This bar also has 170 calories per half serving.

The white chocolate had a nice, firm texture, but the lemon flavor was a bit too sharp, almost bordering on artificial. It reminded us of lemon curd, but without the right balance. While the bar wasn't unpleasant, it wasn't particularly memorable either. The lemon flavor was just on the edge of tasting like a cleaner, which was off-putting for some.

Conclusion

Out of the three, the Banana Crunch was the most enjoyable, thanks to its natural banana flavor and crunchy texture. However, we wouldn't choose any of these bars over other available options. Hammond's offers a wide variety of flavors, and while it's exciting to try new ones, sometimes sticking to fewer, higher-quality options might be better.

If you're curious about Hammond's extensive range, their website features many unique flavors like Pigs in a Blanket and Red Velvet. While these three bars didn't impress us, there are plenty of other Hammond's products to explore.
