Frequently Asked Questions About P-EBT Cards

One common question is, "What can I buy with my P-EBT card?" You can purchase any food for the household, including:

  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Meat, poultry, and fish
  • Dairy products like cheese and milk
  • Breads and cereals
  • Snacks such as candy, chips, and nuts
  • Non-alcoholic beverages
  • Seeds and plants that produce food

However, there are items you cannot buy with your P-EBT card, including:

  • Beer, wine, liquor, and cigarettes
  • Non-food items such as pet food, soaps, paper products, household supplies, vitamins, and medicines
  • Foods that will be eaten in the store and hot foods
  • Hygiene items and cosmetics

P-EBT Benefits Expiry

P-EBT benefits do not expire after a month; the remaining balance continues on your card. However, benefits will expire after 365 days (one year) from the time they were issued. Some states may reduce this period to 274 days (nine months).

Using Your P-EBT Card Online

You can use your P-EBT card both in person and online at various stores, including Amazon, Walmart, Kroger, ShopRite, The Fresh Grocer, Albertsons, and Safeway.

Shopping Online at Walmart

  2. Under "Account," select "Wallet" and then "Payment Methods."
  3. Click "EBT" (Electronic Benefits Transfer) to add your card.

When making purchases, items eligible for EBT will be labeled as "EBT eligible." Note that delivery fees are not covered by your P-EBT card.

Shopping at Costco

  1. Scan your items at checkout.
  2. When prompted, select "Food" as the payment method.
  3. Enter your PIN number.
