Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Soft Baked Oat Bites Review: Chocolate Chip and Strawberry

Today, Kevin and I are reviewing Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Soft Baked Oat Bites, available in Chocolate Chip and Strawberry flavors. We purchased these at Walmart for $3.18 each in the breakfast bar aisle.

First Impressions

The packaging is cute and reminiscent of mini muffin packs. Each box contains four pouches, with each pouch holding five oat bites. Each pouch is 170 calories for Chocolate Chip and 160 calories for Strawberry.

Ingredients and Nutrition

Both flavors boast eight grams of whole grains per serving. The Chocolate Chip variety includes whole grain oats, flour, semisweet chocolate chips, soybean oil, brown sugar, water, and eggs. Despite claiming to be a good source of protein, each pouch only has six grams of protein, which is relatively low compared to dedicated protein snacks.

Tasting the Chocolate Chip Flavor

Unfortunately, the Chocolate Chip flavor was a disappointment. The oat bites had an overwhelming oat flavor with a very faint, almost undetectable chocolate taste. The texture was off-putting, with a "funky" aftertaste that lingered unpleasantly. Kevin noted it tasted almost rancid, although I didn't perceive it quite that badly. Overall, the artificial chocolate flavor and odd oat taste made this flavor a miss.

Tasting the Strawberry Flavor

The Strawberry flavor was slightly better but still not impressive. It had a chewy, dry texture with a mild strawberry taste. However, the oat flavor was still dominant and not particularly enjoyable. We both found the texture unappealing and preferred other oat-based bars on the market.

Final Thoughts

Both flavors failed to impress us. The Chocolate Chip bites had an unpleasant taste, and the Strawberry bites were too bland. We both agreed that Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Soft Baked Oat Bites are not something we would purchase again. With so many better options available, these simply don't stand out.

In conclusion, these oat bites were a letdown. We prefer the original Nutri-Grain bars, which offer better flavors and textures. The Soft Baked Oat Bites won't be making a return to our snack cabinet.

Thank you for reading, and we hope this review helps you make an informed decision.
