Nature Valley Lunchbox Chewy Granola Bars Review: Double Chocolate and S'mores

Today, Kevin and I are trying Nature Valley's Lunchbox Chewy Granola Bars. We tested two flavors: Double Chocolate and S'mores. These bars were $3.42 per box at Walmart, each containing five bars.

Packaging and Value

At first glance, it's clear that the packaging could fit more than five bars. There's ample space for at least six or seven bars, which makes us feel a bit short-changed. However, this packaging strategy is not uncommon among large food corporations.

Production Details

These bars are produced in a peanut-free facility in Canada by General Mills, a point emphasized repeatedly on the packaging. Each bar is 110 calories, making them a guilt-free snack option.

Taste and Texture

Double Chocolate:

- Texture: Soft and chewy, living up to its name.
- Flavor: A rich chocolate flavor that's sweet but not overwhelming.

Kevin and I both appreciated the firm, compact nature of these bars compared to looser alternatives like Quaker Chewy Bars. The Double Chocolate flavor is sweet enough to satisfy a chocolate craving without excessive calories.

S'mores:

- Texture: Similar to Double Chocolate, chewy and satisfying.
- Flavor: A noticeable graham cracker and chocolate taste, though the marshmallow flavor is less pronounced.

The S'mores bars successfully mimic the classic campfire treat with a toasty graham flavor and a hint of chocolate. We were impressed by how well the flavor profile was executed compared to other s'mores-flavored products.

Comparisons and Final Thoughts

While we enjoyed both flavors, the S'mores variety stood out due to its authentic taste. Despite the minor drawback of the packaging, Nature Valley's Lunchbox Chewy Granola Bars offer a delicious and convenient snack option.

For a low-calorie treat that feels substantial, these bars are an excellent choice. Between the two, we'd likely choose Nature Valley over Quaker for their superior texture and flavor.
