Nerdy Nuts: Banana Cream Pie, Strawberry Pretzel, Derby Pie & Buttercup Review

Today, Kevin and I are excited to try Nerdy Nuts for the first time. Thanks to Courtney for sending us these samples! We have four flavors to review: Butter Cup, Derby Pie, Banana Cream Pie, and Strawberry Pretzel. Let’s dive in and give our honest first impressions.

Unboxing and First Impressions

Butter Cup: This flavor looks promising with its white chocolate peanut butter and mini peanut butter cups. The scent is rich and inviting.

Derby Pie: Topped with chocolate chip cookies, bourbon caramel pecan topping, and chopped pecans, this one is packed with toppings.

Banana Cream Pie: This has white chocolate peanut butter layered with marshmallow fluff, caramel sauce, banana-infused cream, and dried banana chips.

Strawberry Pretzel: Featuring white chocolate peanut butter layered with strawberry sauce, cream cheese frosting, freeze-dried strawberries, and pretzel nuggets, this one has an appealing texture.

We’re showing these before stirring to give you an idea of how they look straight from the jar. Unlike the perfectly presented photos on their website, this is how they’ll actually appear when you receive them.

Stirring and Texture

Stirring is essential for these nut butters, especially the Strawberry Pretzel, where the strawberries and pretzels tend to separate. The Butter Cup was easy to stir, while the Derby Pie and Strawberry Pretzel required more effort due to their chunkier textures.

Tasting and Calorie Count

We measured each serving size (28g) to demonstrate how much you get for the calorie count, which ranges from 130 to 140 calories per serving.

Butter Cup: This flavor features crunchy peanut butter with mini peanut butter cups and Reese’s Pieces. The peanut butter is sweet and crunchy, making it a delightful treat.

Derby Pie: This one tastes like a mix of syrup and pecans, though it doesn’t quite capture the essence of a traditional Derby Pie. It’s very thick and sticky but delicious.

Banana Cream Pie: The dominant flavors here are marshmallow cream and peanut butter, with a subtle hint of banana. The banana chips add a nice crunch, but the banana flavor is not very pronounced.

Strawberry Pretzel: The combination of strawberry sauce and peanut butter resembles a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. The freeze-dried strawberries are chewy and stick to your teeth, which might be a downside for some.

Conclusion

Our favorite flavors were Butter Cup for its pure, sweet peanut butter taste and Derby Pie for its rich, pecan-syrup flavor. The Banana Cream Pie was enjoyable but lacked a strong banana flavor. The Strawberry Pretzel had a pleasant strawberry jelly-like taste but was let down by the chewy freeze-dried strawberries.

Nerdy Nuts peanut butters are high-quality and come in a variety of creative flavors. They are on the pricier side, but the unique combinations and rich flavors justify the cost for many. If you’re looking for a decadent, sweet snack and aren’t too concerned about calorie count, these are worth trying.
