New Little Debbie Treats: Spring Mini Donuts, Birthday Cake Cream Pies, and Lemon Spring Mini Muffins

Today, Kevin and I are excited to review three new Little Debbie items: Spring Mini Donuts, Birthday Cake Cream Pies, and Lemon Spring Mini Muffins. We purchased these items from Meijer at varying prices: the Birthday Cake Cream Pies were $2.79, the Spring Mini Donuts were $2.59, and the Lemon Spring Mini Muffins were $2.99.

Spring Mini Donuts

The Spring Mini Donuts are not lemon-flavored but are decorated for the spring season. Made by McKee Foods in Collegedale, Tennessee, these donuts have four servings per container, with each serving of four donuts totaling 290 calories. They have a glaze-like frosting rather than powdered sugar.

Upon tasting, we found that the texture and flavor resemble typical glazed donuts, similar to the ones you might find at a gas station. The coating is a bit greasy, leaving a slight film on your hands and mouth. While they aren't bad, they lack a standout flavor and are quite basic. If you enjoy regular glazed donuts, these might appeal to you. However, for us, they don't offer anything special worth the extra calories.

Birthday Cake Cream Pies

Next, we tried the Birthday Cake Cream Pies. Each box contains eight individually wrapped sandwich cookies, with each cookie containing 200 calories. These cookies have a chewy texture and a genuine birthday cake flavor, complete with sprinkles.

We were pleasantly surprised by the authentic birthday cake taste. The texture is spongy, similar to a moon pie but less dense and dry. The cream pies are sweet and satisfying, making them a better choice for indulging in a treat. If you're looking for a snack that truly captures the essence of a birthday cake, these are a great option.

Lemon Spring Mini Muffins

Finally, we sampled the Lemon Spring Mini Muffins. Each box contains five pouches, with each pouch holding four muffins at 180 calories per pouch. The muffins are light, fluffy, and have a subtle lemon flavor, making them enjoyable for both kids and adults.

The muffins' texture is soft and moist, and the light lemon taste is pleasant without being overpowering. They are not as sweet or sharp as typical lemon cakes, which makes them a safe and appealing option for a wide audience.

Our Verdict

When choosing between these three new Little Debbie items, our top pick is the Lemon Spring Mini Muffins due to their delightful texture and balanced lemon flavor. The Birthday Cake Cream Pies come in a close second, offering a genuine birthday cake experience. However, we would not recommend the Spring Mini Donuts, as they lack distinctiveness and don't offer anything beyond what you can find in a standard glazed donut.

Overall, if you're already a fan of these types of treats, you'll likely enjoy the new variations. Otherwise, it's essential to consider whether the novelty of the spring-themed decorations justifies the purchase.
