Oreo Waffle Sticks - White Chocolate and Dark Chocolate

Today, Kevin and I are sampling Oreo Waffle Sticks, available in white chocolate and dark chocolate varieties. These treats, priced at $1.99 each, were found at Jungle Jim’s International Market.

Product Description

Interestingly, the packaging describes these as "wheat flour cookies," a term consistently used across Oreo products. This product is made in China and contains five sticks per package.

Tasting Experience

White Chocolate Oreo Waffle Sticks

  • Appearance & Smell: The white chocolate version has a pleasant aroma.
  • Taste & Texture: Despite its name, the white chocolate flavor is almost nonexistent. The wafer itself resembles other wafer cookies but lacks sweetness and distinctive flavor. The texture is reminiscent of a waxy coating found on a Little Debbie Zebra Cake. Each stick is 60 calories, which seems surprising given its minimal flavor.

Dark Chocolate Oreo Waffle Sticks

  • Appearance & Smell: The dark chocolate version also has a cocoa scent.
  • Taste & Texture: This version offers a bit more flavor, though it leans towards a bitter cocoa taste, similar to unsweetened baking cocoa. The overall flavor profile is not sweet, which may disappoint those expecting the typical Oreo sweetness.

Comparison to Other Wafer Cookies

We've reviewed many wafer cookies, and our favorite remains the Vortman brand. The wafer texture of the Oreo Waffle Sticks is similar to Vortman, but the lack of flavorful filling makes the wafer stand out, unfortunately not in a good way.

Conclusion

While the Oreo Waffle Sticks are fun to try, especially if you enjoy exploring international snacks, they may not satisfy those with a preference for sweeter treats. If you encounter these at an international market like Jungle Jim’s, consider saving your money unless you specifically enjoy a non-sweet, crunchy snack.
