Today, Kevin and I are reviewing two candy bars: Dove Shareable Dark Chocolate and Peanut Butter, and Pearson's Salted Nut Roll with Skippy Peanut Butter.
Dove Shareable Dark Chocolate and Peanut Butter
The Dove Shareable bar consists of three large promises of dark chocolate and peanut butter. These king-sized bars, priced at $3.19 each at Huck's gas station, offer 2.75 oz of candy at 150 calories per piece. We suspect Walmart might offer a better deal for similar bars.
Upon tasting, we found the dark chocolate easy to cut but overwhelmingly bitter. The peanut butter inside is neither sweet nor salty, failing to balance the dark chocolate’s intensity. While we appreciate Dove's quality, we prefer their milk chocolate caramel variant for its sweeter taste and creamy texture. Unfortunately, this dark chocolate and peanut butter combination is too dry and bitter for our liking.
Pearson's Salted Nut Roll with Skippy Peanut Butter
The Pearson's Salted Nut Roll, also priced at $3.19 for a 3.25 oz bar, contains three servings at 150 calories each. The bar resembles a Payday, with golden caramel, roasted peanuts, and a peanut butter nougat center. Notably, it is labeled gluten-free.
Our expectations were subverted as the peanut butter turned out to be crunchy, almost like crystallized sugar, rather than the soft nougat we anticipated. This unexpected texture made the bar feel stale, although the flavor remained decent. While the peanuts provide some saltiness, it's not as pronounced as in a Payday bar.
Ultimately, while the Pearson's Salted Nut Roll is edible, we wouldn’t purchase it again. For a better experience, we recommend sticking with a classic Payday, which offers a superior texture and flavor.
Conclusion
Neither the Dove Shareable Dark Chocolate and Peanut Butter nor the Pearson's Salted Nut Roll with Skippy Peanut Butter met our expectations. If you’re interested in trying Dove, opt for their milk chocolate caramel variety available at Walmart. For a nutty treat, the classic Payday remains our top choice.
