Sarah Jane's Green Tomato Salsa, Jalapeno Mustard, and Jalapeno Jelly

Today, Kevin and I are excited to try a variety of products from Sarah Jane's, including their Green Tomato Salsa, Jalapeno Mustard, and Jalapeno Jelly. These were generously sent to us by Michael—thank you, Michael! Sarah Jane's products are made in Argonia, Kansas.

Green Tomato Salsa

Sarah Jane's Green Tomato Salsa is homegrown, homemade, gluten-free, and medium in spiciness. It comes in a 16 oz (454 g) jar, providing 16 servings (2 tablespoons per serving, 10 calories each). This salsa is perfect for family celebrations or tailgate parties. It's described as "not too hot and not too mild, just right."

Ingredients include tomato juice, tomato sauce, water, onion, green tomatoes, bell peppers, jalapeno pepper, ketchup, lime juice, salt, chili powder, spices, garlic, cilantro, and hot sauce.

Our Review:

- Texture: Chunky with a good mix of ingredients.
- Flavor: While it has a homemade taste, we found it somewhat lighter in flavor compared to store-bought salsas, which tend to be bolder. The heat level is mild, with a slight tingle for those sensitive to jalapenos.
- Pairing: Works well with chicken, adding a nice touch when baked on top. It would also be great with tortilla chips.

Jalapeno Mustard

Sarah Jane's Jalapeno Mustard is described as a sweet and spicy explosion of flavor, ideal for hamburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, deviled eggs, and potato salad. It comes in a 12 oz (341 g) jar, with 1 teaspoon (5 g) containing 5 calories. The main ingredients are sugar, vinegar, jalapeno peppers, mustard, water, flour, malted barley flour, and salt.

Our Review:

- Flavor: Strong mustard flavor with a noticeable sweetness and a significant kick from the jalapenos.
- Pairing: Excellent on deviled eggs and potato salad, though perhaps too sweet for hamburgers or hot dogs. Kevin noted that it tastes similar to a homemade mustard glaze he makes with brown sugar and vinegar.

Jalapeno Jelly

Sarah Jane's Jalapeno Jelly is a sweet and spicy sensation that pairs well with cream cheese and crackers, ham, grilled cheese, or even peanut butter sandwiches. It comes in an 8 oz (227 g) jar, with 11 servings (1 tablespoon each, 35 calories).

Ingredients include sugar, apple cider vinegar, jalapeno peppers, green bell peppers, liquid gelatin, folic acid, citric acid, and potassium.

Our Review:

- Flavor: Sweet with a pleasant heat. The jelly has a traditional gelatin texture and a slight warmth.
- Pairing: Perfect with cream cheese and crackers. We also enjoyed it with chicken. While the combination with peanut butter sounds unusual, it might work due to the sweetness of both components.

Final Thoughts

- Green Tomato Salsa: While enjoyable, it lacks the strong tomato flavor of store-bought salsas. Those preferring a homemade taste might appreciate it more.
- Jalapeno Mustard: A flavorful addition to various dishes, though its sweetness might not be for everyone.
- Jalapeno Jelly: Our favorite, with a perfect balance of sweetness and heat, versatile for many uses.
