Average Kitchen: Testing the Ninja Air Fryer Pro XL

Hey, welcome back to The Average Kitchen! Mark here, coming to you from Canada. Today, we're testing the brand-new Ninja Air Fryer Pro XL. This video is unique because we're examining two major claims about this product: it can cook 5 lbs of fries and 9 lbs of wings.

Testing the Fries Claim

First, we preheated the fryer and weighed out 5 lbs of frozen fries. Let's see if they fit inside the basket as Ninja claims. At first glance, it doesn't look promising. The basket is decent-sized, but fitting 5 lbs of fries seems challenging. We struggled to get them all in, managing about 4.5 lbs.

We set a timer for 25 to 30 minutes, planning to check every 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, it was clear that shaking the fries was nearly impossible due to their weight. Using tongs was the only option, but it was tearing some fries apart.

At the 25-minute mark, the fries were starting to look crispy, but they were clumping together. After about 32 minutes, they were done, though some were not as crispy as desired. Cooking this volume of fries led to inconsistent results, with some fries still being somewhat raw.

Testing the Wings Claim

Next, we tackled the 9 lbs of wings. Off-camera, we weighed them and took a photo for proof. We set the air fryer for 50 minutes, checking every 12 to 15 minutes. After the first 15 minutes, the wings on top were cooking, but those at the bottom were still raw.

Stirring and turning the wings was a constant battle. By the 42-minute mark, some wings were crispy while others were still raw. After 75 minutes, we called it quits. The top layer was crispy, but the bottom wings were still undercooked. Cooking 9 lbs of wings in one go proved impractical.

Conclusion

In summary, the Ninja Air Fryer Pro XL couldn't handle the claims made on the box. It struggled to cook 5 lbs of fries and 9 lbs of wings evenly. For a price of $169 USD (about $210 CAD), it might be reasonable for smaller batches, but it's not suitable for the large quantities advertised.

Would you serve these results to your friends? Maybe, but the inconsistency in cooking leaves much to be desired.
