Doughlicious: Strawberry, Blueberry, Chocolate Truffle, Chocolate Chip & Mint Chocolate Chip

Today, Kevin and I are excited to review some delicious treats from The London Dough Company. We sampled five flavors: chocolate chip, chocolate truffle, strawberry, blueberry, and mint chocolate chip. These treats are made in the United Kingdom and are available at Whole Foods. Regularly priced at $6.99, we bought them on sale for $4.89.

Each bite is reminiscent of mochi ice cream balls but with a twist—they're filled with cookie dough and non-dairy gelato. Each piece contains only 110 calories, making them a guilt-free snack option. They are gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan-approved, enhancing their appeal to health-conscious consumers.

Flavor Reviews

1. Chocolate Chip

The chocolate chip bites have a cookie crumb exterior with vanilla-flavored cookie dough and non-dairy gelato inside. The texture is smooth, lacking the typical grittiness of cookie dough. Despite being non-dairy, the flavor is rich and authentic. However, it doesn’t distinctly taste like chocolate chip—more like vanilla cookie dough with a hint of sweetness.

2. Chocolate Truffle

These bites pack a richer chocolate flavor compared to the chocolate chip ones. The dark chocolate taste is less sweet but more intense, making it a favorite for chocolate lovers. The texture includes tiny pieces, possibly from the crumb coating, adding an interesting contrast.

3. Strawberry

The strawberry bites surprised us with their fresh, natural strawberry flavor. They taste as if they contain fresh strawberries, making them a delightful treat. This flavor stands out for its authenticity and sweetness.

4. Blueberry

Unlike the others, the blueberry bites are made with frozen yogurt instead of gelato, giving them a tangy, cheesecake-like flavor. This bite offers a unique and refreshing taste, reminiscent of a blueberry cheesecake.

5. Mint Chocolate Chip

The mint flavor is overpowering and akin to toothpaste or mouthwash, making it less enjoyable as a dessert. The strong mint cancels out the sweetness of the chocolate, making it a less favored option.

Conclusion and Recommendations

Our least favorite was the mint chocolate chip due to its overpowering mint flavor. Our top pick is the blueberry frozen yogurt bites, followed by the chocolate truffle and strawberry flavors. The chocolate chip, while pleasant, was a bit plain compared to the others.

These bites are a great deal at the sale price of $4.89, offering a satisfying sweet treat. However, the regular price of $6.99 might be a bit steep compared to a pint of ice cream. If you find them on sale, they are definitely worth trying. We wouldn’t buy the mint flavor again but highly recommend the others, especially the blueberry and chocolate truffle.
