Favorite Day Bakery (Target) Cherry Crumble Dessert Bars & Iced Raspberry Lemon Sliced Cake Review

Today, Kevin and I are reviewing two items from Favorite Day Bakery: the Iced Raspberry Lemon Sliced Cake and the Gluten-Free Cherry Crumble Dessert Bars. Let's dive into the details.

The Iced Raspberry Lemon Sliced Cake is a seasonal offering, priced at $5.29. Each package contains eight slices, with each slice having 190 calories. These cakes are distributed by Target in Minneapolis, Minnesota, although the exact production location is unknown.

The cakes were found in a special display cart at Target, not in the usual grocery section. The cakes are part of a festive display that included various seasonal treats.

The slices have a distinctive swirled appearance, with some looking more lemony and others more raspberry-like. On tasting, we found the texture to be similar to a lemon pound cake. Despite the raspberry in the name, the flavor was predominantly lemon, with very little raspberry detected. The frosting added a lot of sweetness, and the cake itself was pleasant even without it. However, the labeling was misleading as there was virtually no raspberry flavor.

The Gluten-Free Cherry Crumble Dessert Bars cost $5.99 for a pack of four bars, with each bar containing 170 calories.

The bars were also found in the special display cart at Target. The packaging highlighted that these are seasonal and gluten-free.

These bars have a shortbread base with a light cherry flavor and a crumbly, oat-like topping. However, the cherry flavor was almost nonexistent, and the bars tasted very earthy and gritty, likely due to the gluten-free ingredients. Despite the first listed ingredient being cherry jam, the cherry taste was barely detectable. The overall texture and flavor were not appealing to everyone.

While the Iced Raspberry Lemon Sliced Cake was enjoyable as a lemon cake, it failed to deliver on the raspberry flavor. The Gluten-Free Cherry Crumble Dessert Bars had a divisive taste, with an earthy, gritty texture that some might not enjoy. 

We noted that these items were sporadically available at our local Target. It raises the question of whether other Target locations might have better-stocked bakery sections or even in-house bakeries. If your local Target has a bakery, we'd love to hear about it in the comments.
