Today, Kevin and I are reviewing four Fit Crunch bars from Chef Robert Irvine: Chocolate Brownie, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Chocolate Coconut Almond, and Mint Chocolate Chip. We ordered these bars from Walmart online, though they were sourced from a third-party vendor. They came in a mixed variety box, which included a giant bar. Each 88g bar cost $3.17, and the 46g bars were $3 each. While you can find these bars in-store at Walmart, to get a variety of flavors, you need to purchase the mixed variety box, as single flavors are typically sold in bulk.
Chocolate Brownie
This bar is a six-layer baked bar made with whey proteins. It contains 16g of protein, 4g of sugar, 210 calories, and is gluten-free. Manufactured by Pervine Foods in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, you can find more information at fitcrunch.com.
The Chocolate Brownie bar doesn’t have the typical protein bar aftertaste. It reminded us of Little Debbie brownies, especially the ones from the '80s with walnuts on top. Kevin found it satisfactory, though he wouldn’t go out of his way to eat it, while I was impressed and could see myself finishing a whole box.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
This bar also contains 16g of protein, 3g of sugar, 210 calories, and is gluten-free.
Our daughter Ashley loves this flavor. It has a strong cookie dough flavor, especially after swallowing. Although I noticed a slight protein taste, it wasn’t overwhelming. Kevin and I both preferred the brownie flavor but still enjoyed this one.
Chocolate Coconut Almond
With 16g of protein, 5g of sugar, 210 calories, and being gluten-free, this bar was a wildcard due to its coconut content.
The coconut flavor was sweet and well-balanced, with crunchy bits enhancing the texture. Kevin, who is more sensitive to protein flavors, didn’t mind this one at all. It tasted like a sweet coconut patty dipped in chocolate. Both of us enjoyed it, with Kevin preferring it over the previous two.
Mint Chocolate Chip
This larger 88g bar packs 30g of protein, 7g of sugar, and is still gluten-free.
The mint flavor was very strong, reminiscent of a breath mint rather than a candy mint. The bar’s texture was chewier and thicker. I didn’t mind the mint flavor, but Kevin found it off-putting. This bar was our least favorite, with Kevin saying he wouldn’t buy it again.
Final Thoughts
Among the four, the Coconut Almond was our favorite, followed by the Chocolate Brownie and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. The Mint Chocolate Chip was the least favored. We appreciate the variety box as it offers different flavors without committing to one, though it’s possible to encounter a flavor you don’t like. Overall, these Fit Crunch bars impressed us with their taste, especially considering they are protein bars.
