Guy Fieri's Flavortown BBQ Sauces: Money Honey Barbecue Sauce, Smokin' Hickory Barbecue Sauce, and Mop Sauce

Today, Kevin and I are reviewing Guy Fieri's "This is Flavor Town" barbecue sauces. We have three flavors to try: Money Honey Barbecue Sauce, Smokin' Hickory Barbecue Sauce, and Mop Sauce. Each bottle cost $3.98 at Walmart. Although there's a Carolina flavor available in a blue bottle, it’s not available in our area.

Money Honey Barbecue Sauce

The Money Honey Barbecue Sauce combines sweet sticky honey with brown sugar, a hint of tomato, and spices. It’s designed to enhance wings, ribs, salmon, and sweet potatoes. The nutritional information indicates 12 servings per container, with each 2-tablespoon serving containing 60 calories.

Upon tasting, this sauce has a color reminiscent of soy sauce with a reddish-orange hue. Its flavor is predominantly sweet with a slight vinegar tang. While it's a decent sauce, we found it lacking in smokiness or heat. It might work well as a sweet condiment on a hamburger or cheeseburger, but for those who prefer more robust flavors, this may not be the ideal choice.

Smokin' Hickory Barbecue Sauce

Described as a classic barbecue sauce, the Smokin' Hickory Barbecue Sauce offers a balance of sticky sweetness, smokiness, and tanginess. Each 2-tablespoon serving contains 80 calories.

This sauce has a darker, brownish color and a pronounced smoky flavor. It’s very sweet, similar to well-known brands like KC Masterpiece or Kraft. It's a versatile sauce that complements a wide variety of dishes, from burgers to ribs. We appreciated its smoky undertones, although it lacks the sharp vinegar flavor present in the Money Honey variety.

Mop Sauce

The Mop Sauce aims to keep barbecue moist with a mix of spices, molasses, and a mustard tang. It’s slightly runny, with each 2-tablespoon serving containing 40 calories.

This sauce is dark and has a peppery flavor similar to steak sauce, particularly A1. While it isn’t as thick or flavorful as A1, it’s more suited to steak than traditional barbecue. For those who prefer a less sweet and more peppery sauce, this might be the best option among the three.

Final Thoughts

Each sauce offers a unique flavor profile:

  • Money Honey Barbecue Sauce: Ideal for those who prefer sweet, tangy sauces without much heat or smokiness.
  • Smokin' Hickory Barbecue Sauce: A classic, versatile barbecue sauce with a strong smoky flavor.
  • Mop Sauce: Best suited for steak, offering a peppery alternative to traditional barbecue sauces.

If you prefer vinegar-based sauces, you might enjoy the Money Honey Barbecue Sauce. For a more classic barbecue experience, the Smokin' Hickory is a good choice. If you lean towards steak sauces, the Mop Sauce is worth trying.

We’re curious if anyone has found the Carolina flavor in their area. Despite our efforts to locate it, it remains elusive. If you’ve tried it, please let us know your thoughts.
