Gym Weed Energy Drink: Candy Shop, Rainbow Sherbet & Pear Pineapple Review

Today, Kevin and I are trying the Gym Weed brand adaptogen energy drinks. We picked up the Candy Shop, Rainbow Sherbet, and Pear Pineapple flavors, each costing $2.99 at the Vitamin Shoppe. These 12 oz cans intrigued us, although Kevin was initially hesitant due to the name, fearing it might give the wrong impression.

Despite the name, the company clarifies on their website that Gym Weed contains no cannabis—it’s all about plants. The brand is created by the makers of Muscle Milk, suggesting they have significant experience in the health and fitness market. However, the name "Gym Weed" might deter potential customers due to its connotations.

What’s Inside?

Gym Weed Adaptogen Energy combines caffeine from green tea with functional ingredients for focused energy without the typical jitters and crash. Here’s a breakdown of its key components:
- Adaptogens: Herbal roots, mushrooms, and other plant substances help manage stress and restore balance.
- KSM-66 Ashwagandha: A branded extract known for reducing stress and enhancing memory and cognition.
- Caffeine: 200 mg from green tea to boost focus and exercise performance.
- Lion’s Mane: 100 mg to support cognitive functions.
- L-Theanine: 100 mg for a relaxed yet alert state of mind.
- B Vitamins and Electrolytes: For energy metabolism and hydration support.

Tasting the Flavors

Candy Shop

- Description: A sweet and sour candy explosion reminiscent of rainbow candies.
- Taste: While it’s sweet, Kevin noted an underlying medicinal flavor similar to cough syrup. I didn’t mind the taste, finding it sweet but not exactly like Skittles.

Rainbow Sherbet

- Description: Lime, orange, and cherry with a smooth, creamy finish.
- Taste: The lime flavor is prominent, with hints of cherry and orange. Kevin detected a slight sourness and an underlying funkiness, but I enjoyed the creamy, push-pop-like flavor.

Pear Pineapple

- Description: A bright combination of juicy pear and sweet pineapple.
- Taste: This one has a stronger pineapple flavor. Kevin found it more palatable compared to the others, while I appreciated the fresh, healthy taste.

Overall Impressions

- Sweetness: All flavors are very sweet, which I enjoy, but the medicinal undertone Kevin mentioned might not appeal to everyone.
- Size: The 12 oz cans are lightly carbonated and slightly fizzy, a departure from the larger cans typically preferred by regular energy drink consumers.
- Preference: If I had to rank them, Rainbow Sherbet would be my top choice, followed by Pear Pineapple and Candy Shop. Kevin preferred the Pear Pineapple but found the other flavors less appealing.

Final Thoughts

The name “Gym Weed” might need reconsideration to avoid deterring potential customers. Despite the initial skepticism, we found some flavors enjoyable. If you’ve tried these drinks or have thoughts on the branding, we’d love to hear from you.
