Healthy Soda Review: Olipop Doctor Goodwin

Hey everyone, welcome back! Today, we’re diving into a healthy-ish soda review. You've heard of Dr. Feelgood and Dr. Green Thumb, but now we introduce Olipop Dr. Goodwin. Let’s see how it stacks up, especially against its closest competitor, Poppy, since both are healthy sodas inspired by Dr. Pepper's iconic flavor.

The Dr. Pepper Debate

Before diving into the review, let's talk about Dr. Pepper. It's a brand that sparks passionate opinions. While Coke and Pepsi dominate the soda world, Dr. Pepper enthusiasts are vocal and proud. Did you know you can order a pickled Dr. Pepper at Sonic? It’s part of a unique subculture that includes creations like dirty Dr. Peppers.

What's in Olipop Doctor Goodwin?

Olipop Dr. Goodwin is more than just a soda. It boasts prebiotics, botanicals, and plant fiber, aiming to support digestive health. Here’s a quick breakdown:
- Non-GMO
- Supports Digestive Health
- Microbiome Approved
- 3g of Sugar per Can
- 5% Juice
- 45 Calories

The juice mix includes plum, tart cherry, prune, and lemon juice. With ingredients like these, it’s clear this drink is designed for health benefits, although it might have some, um, cleansing effects.

Our Review

We tried Olipop Dr. Goodwin, and here are our thoughts:

Appearance & Smell
- The soda has a peachy color.
- It has a medicinal smell that isn’t very appealing.

Taste Test
- Thumbs Down: Initially, it seemed promising, but the aftertaste was overwhelmingly medicinal and unpleasant. Not being a big Dr. Pepper fan, I found it hard to enjoy this soda. If I had to choose, I'd pick root beer over Dr. Pepper any day. Other Olipop flavors have been better, but this one missed the mark.

While I’m not a fan of Dr. Pepper, I found Dr. Goodwin’s flavor to be a dialed-back version of it. It tasted more like a flavored seltzer water. Despite good carbonation and sweetness levels, the artificial sweetener left a heavy feeling in my stomach. I wouldn’t buy this again, though I'd choose it over a regular Dr. Pepper if given the option.

What Does Olipop Dr. Goodwin Taste Like?

Olipop Dr. Goodwin has a complex flavor profile with initial notes reminiscent of Dr. Pepper, but it also carries a strong medicinal aftertaste. The soda combines flavors of plum, tart cherry, prune, and lemon juice, which contribute to its unique taste. Some might find it a bit like a flavored seltzer water with a hint of Dr. Pepper, but with an added herbal and botanical twist.

What Flavor Is Olipop Dr. Goodwin?

Olipop Dr. Goodwin is designed to mimic the flavor of Dr. Pepper. It incorporates a blend of plum juice, tart cherry juice, prune juice, and lemon juice, aiming to create a similar yet distinct taste experience with added health benefits.

Does Olipop Dr. Goodwin Have Caffeine?

No, Olipop Dr. Goodwin does not contain caffeine. It is marketed as a healthier soda alternative, focusing on prebiotics, botanicals, and plant fiber without the stimulating effects of caffeine.

Is Olipop Dr. Goodwin Like Dr. Pepper?

Olipop Dr. Goodwin aims to replicate the flavor profile of Dr. Pepper but with a healthier twist. While it shares some flavor similarities, including the complex and slightly spicy notes, it also has a unique medicinal aftertaste and includes additional botanical and herbal elements. It can be considered a healthier alternative to Dr. Pepper, but the taste experience is not identical.

Final Thoughts

In summary, Olipop Dr. Goodwin gets two thumbs down from us. It has potential for Dr. Pepper fans looking for a healthier option but didn’t work for us.
