Hostess Meltamors Mini Cakes: Chocolate Creamy Caramel & Double Chocolate Review

Today, Kevin and I are excited to try the new Hostess Melmor cakes, which were generously sent to us by Hostess. The packaging is designed to resemble a microwave, emphasizing the recommended warming instructions. Upon opening the box, we found a press release, napkins, and the mini cakes. The napkins come in three fun designs: "Meltor: Get Your Cake On," "Life Happens, Chocolate Helps," and "Keep Calm and Eat Caramel."

The Hostess Melmor cakes come in two flavors: Chocolate Creamy Caramel and Double Chocolate. Each box contains eight individually wrapped mini cakes. You can enjoy them straight from the package or warmed up. The warming instructions are simple: remove the cake from all packaging, place it on a microwave-safe plate, and heat for 5 seconds (or 10 seconds for two cakes). Let it cool for 1 minute before eating to avoid any burns.

When we cut into the warmed cakes, we immediately noticed how gooey and soft they became, just like the molten center shown in the pictures. The chocolate cake was particularly rich and moist, enhanced by the warm, melty center.

Here's a breakdown of our tasting experience:

Double Chocolate Melmor

  • Heated: The texture is moist and gooey, reminiscent of a classic Hostess chocolate cupcake, but with an extra layer of decadence due to the melty center. The warmth enhances the chocolate flavor, making it a delightful treat.
  • Unheated: Still enjoyable, but the flavor is more akin to a traditional Hostess cupcake. The texture is a bit firmer, and there's a slight bitterness that isn't present when heated.

Chocolate Creamy Caramel Melmor

  • Heated: The caramel flavor becomes more pronounced, adding a rich, almost coffee-like taste that pairs wonderfully with the chocolate. The warm center is incredibly satisfying.
  • Unheated: The caramel flavor is less intense but still enjoyable. The cake has a firmer texture and a slight bitterness, similar to the Double Chocolate flavor.

Overall, we found that warming the Melmor cakes significantly enhances their flavors and textures. The warm, gooey centers provide a comforting, homemade feel that elevates these treats above standard snack cakes.

For those in a hurry, the cakes are still tasty when eaten straight from the package. However, if you have the time, we highly recommend warming them up for the best experience.

If you've spotted Hostess Melmor cakes in your local store, let us know where you found them, as they're still scarce in our area.
