How to Use a Butane Stove This butane stove is from Gas One, but most butane stoves operate similarly. You'll need a can of butane fuel; I'm using a Sterno butane fuel cartridge. Here’s how to set it up: Lift the little cap on the stove. Remove any plastic cap from the butane canister. Insert the canister with the notch facing up. Press it in to engage and slide down the fuel lock. The canister should lock into position. Close the lid, ensuring nothing flammable is nearby. Turn the knob to "light" to ignite the stove.
