Jack Link's Wild Sticks

Today, Kevin and I are exploring Jack Link's Wild Sticks, available in Mild, Original, Dr Pepper, and Hot flavors. Priced at $2.99 each at Circle K, these larger sticks boast more calories than standard varieties, with each stick containing 300 calories.

Mild Flavor

The Mild flavor is intriguing. Despite the name, the "wild" aspect seems to come from the size rather than the seasoning. At 300 calories for a 62g stick, these are significantly more substantial than typical meat sticks. The casing is thick, and the flavor, while pleasant, is quite mild. We noticed a soft, almost pasty texture that was less desirable, preferring a firmer bite.

Original Flavor

Next, we tried the Original flavor, which also contains 300 calories. This stick was softer than expected, even compared to brands like Double H. However, it had a more pronounced seasoning, with a noticeable smoky and peppery taste that we found enjoyable. The texture, still somewhat pasty, was a bit firmer than the Mild flavor.

Dr Pepper Flavor

The Dr Pepper flavor stick, containing 290 calories, was a unique experience. The flavor profile was distinctly Dr Pepper, lacking the usual smoky or spicy undertones found in traditional meat sticks. The texture was very soft, and the overall taste was sweet, almost like the stick had been soaked in Dr Pepper. While innovative, it might not be everyone's preference.

Hot Flavor

Finally, we tried the Hot flavor. Initially mild, the heat gradually built up, becoming quite intense. The spiciness was overwhelming, making it difficult to appreciate any other flavors. For those who enjoy a strong kick, this might be a good option, but it lacked the balance of heat and flavor.

Conclusion

Among these, the Original flavor stood out as the best, with its balanced smoky and peppery taste. The Dr Pepper flavor, while interesting, wasn't something we would choose again. The Hot flavor was too intense without a complementary taste, and the Mild flavor, although decent, didn't live up to its "wild" branding.
