Jelly Belly Chews Review: A Tasty Delight from HomeGoods

Today, Kevin and I are excited to try the Jelly Belly Chews, a delightful taffy candy. We found a 7.75 oz (219 g) bag at HomeGoods for $22.99. The flavors include Watermelon, Buttered Popcorn (Kevin's favorite), Berry Blue, and Very Cherry. The package is quite substantial and emits a wonderful aroma, so we were eager to see if we got all the flavors.

Counting the Flavors

First, we counted the pieces:

  • 11 Berry Blue
  • 10 Buttered Popcorn
  • 3 Very Cherry
  • 3 Watermelon

We were pleased to find all the flavors represented. These chews are made by Adams & Brooks in San Bernardino, California. The serving size is four pieces (32 g) with 130 calories.

Taste Test: Very Cherry

We started with Very Cherry. The texture is reminiscent of Laffy Taffy—sticky and chewy. The cherry flavor is similar to a Lifesaver Cherry, though not as intense. Despite the stickiness, the taste was enjoyable and reminded us of classic cherry candy.

Taste Test: Berry Blue

Next, we tried Berry Blue. The chews are soft and dissolve quickly despite their initial stickiness. The blueberry flavor is strong and artificial, exactly what we want in a candy. The bold taste makes it a standout.

Taste Test: Watermelon

Moving on to Watermelon, we found it milder than expected. While it's still sweet and sticky, the flavor is not as overpowering as some watermelon candies, making it pleasantly surprising.

Taste Test: Buttered Popcorn

Finally, we tried Buttered Popcorn. Despite Kevin's initial hesitation, we both loved it. The flavor is intensely buttery, even more so than the Jelly Belly buttered popcorn jelly beans. The sweet buttery taste was our favorite, and we both agreed we could eat a whole bag of these.

Conclusion

Overall, the Jelly Belly Chews are a delightful treat. Each flavor offers a unique taste experience, and the chews are a fun and nostalgic candy. While they are sticky, the flavors more than make up for it. We highly recommend trying these if you can find them. Unfortunately, they seem rare in stores, but if you spot them, grab a bag!
