Mustards from Terrapin Ridge Farms

Today, Kevin and I are sampling some mustards from Terrapin Ridge Farms, located in Clearwater, Florida. These were kindly sent to us by Michael—thank you, Michael! We have five varieties to try: Smoky Maple Bacon, Pecan Honey, Dill Pickle, Creamy Garlic, and Nashville Hot Spice Mustard.

Each jar is sealed with a clear seal that needs to be removed before opening. We’ve baked some chicken to pair with these mustards, as we believe chicken and mustard complement each other well. Now, let’s get started.

Smoky Maple Bacon Mustard This mustard is gluten-free and flavored with real bacon. It comes in 10.8-ounce containers, priced at $6.99 each. The label describes it as a bold and spicy mustard with added maple flavor and smoky bacon, making it a unique condiment. It's perfect for glazing chicken, ham, or pork, and also works well as a pretzel dip. Each two-tablespoon serving is 80 calories.

Upon tasting, we found it to be very sweet, with pieces of actual bacon adding to its appeal. Its sweetness makes it an excellent glaze for meats. Although it’s more mustard-forward than our usual homemade glaze, we really enjoyed it.

Pecan Honey Mustard This gluten-free mustard combines rich pecan flavor with sweet and tangy honey mustard. It's recommended as a cheese topper, pretzel dip, or glaze for meats and vegetables. It's also great for baked brie and as a sauce for pork tenderloin or roast turkey. One teaspoon contains 20 calories.

This mustard has a strong, thick consistency, similar to pancake syrup. It has a tangier flavor compared to the first one, likely due to the pecans. While it’s okay, we didn’t enjoy it as much as the Smoky Maple Bacon Mustard.

Dill Pickle Mustard Also gluten-free, this mustard blends intense dill pickle flavors with smooth Dijon. It's suggested for burgers, brats, potato salad, and deviled eggs. Each tablespoon has 15 calories.

This mustard delivers a strong dill flavor, reminiscent of deviled eggs with pickle relish. It's robust and tangy, making it an excellent addition to sausages or as a condiment for various dishes.

Creamy Garlic Mustard This mustard combines garlic with creamy mustard, making it a crowd favorite at gatherings. It's ideal with pretzels, on burgers, sandwiches, and as a sauce for steak, chicken, or fish. One teaspoon is 20 calories.

This mustard has a strong garlic presence, but it’s balanced and not overpowering. It resembles regular yellow mustard in appearance and would be great on a burger or any dish requiring a mustard boost.

Nashville Hot Spice Mustard Infused with cayenne pepper and smoked paprika, this mustard is designed to add a spicy kick. It's perfect for sandwiches, burgers, and brats, and works well as a dip for chicken tenders or a glaze for grilled chicken breasts. Each teaspoon contains 20 calories.

This mustard is quite spicy, with a robust flavor profile. While flavorful, it’s intense and best used sparingly, perhaps as a thin layer on a sandwich.

Our Favorites Out of all the mustards, our top picks are the Dill Pickle and Creamy Garlic Mustards. Both offer unique flavors that elevate simple dishes. The Dill Pickle Mustard would be great in potato salad, while the Creamy Garlic Mustard can be used wherever you’d typically use yellow mustard.

The Smoky Maple Bacon Mustard also stood out for its sweetness and versatility as a glaze. The Pecan Honey Mustard was our least favorite, and the Nashville Hot Spice Mustard is best suited for those who enjoy a spicy kick.
