Popcorn: Red Bird Cotton Candy, Colorado Jack: White Cheddar & Jalapeño and Colorado Mix

Today, Kevin and I are excited to review two unique popcorn brands: Red Bird Handcrafted Candy and Colorado Jack. We've got the Red Bird Cotton Candy Popcorn and two varieties from Colorado Jack - White Cheddar and Jalapeno, and the Colorado Mix, which combines caramel with white cheddar and jalapeno.

The Red Bird Cotton Candy Popcorn comes in a 7 oz (198 g) bag, priced at $5.99. Purchased from Hux, a gas station and convenience store, this popcorn offers a unique blend of fresh popcorn coated in a sweet glaze and sprinkled with crushed cotton candy puffs. Red Bird, based in Lexington, North Carolina, has been crafting wholesome confections for over 130 years.

Upon tasting, the popcorn had a thick candy coating that was enjoyable. However, the texture of the popcorn itself was less appealing. It felt tough and styrofoam-like, likely due to the thick glaze. Despite this, the cotton candy flavor was delightful, making it a unique and fun snack.

We also tried two varieties from Colorado Jack, both bought from Hux at $5.29 each for a 6.5 oz bag. Colorado Jack prides itself on non-GMO, gluten-free, and 100% whole grain popcorn.

This variety impressed us with its strong cheese flavor and a subtle heat from the jalapeno. The cheese was the dominant flavor, with the jalapeno providing a pleasant warmth rather than an overwhelming heat. This popcorn is perfect for those who enjoy a bit of spice without it being too intense.

The Colorado Mix combines the same white cheddar and jalapeno popcorn with caramel corn. This blend offers a perfect balance of savory and sweet flavors. The caramel corn had a delightful toffee flavor and a satisfying crunch, reminiscent of peanut brittle. The combination of the sharp cheddar and the sweet caramel was exceptional, making it a highly enjoyable snack.

Both Red Bird and Colorado Jack offer unique popcorn experiences. While the texture of Red Bird's Cotton Candy Popcorn was a bit tough, the flavor was enjoyable. Colorado Jack's varieties, on the other hand, excelled in both flavor and texture. The White Cheddar and Jalapeno, along with the Colorado Mix, were standout snacks that we would happily purchase again.
