Popcorner Gourmet Popcorn: A Taste Test and Review

Today, Kevin and I will be tasting and reviewing Popcorner Gourmet Popcorn and Old Fashioned Delights, kindly sent to us by Michael. Thank you, Michael! We have two flavors to try: Peanut Butter Crisp and Sour Cream and Cheddar.

Product Overview

Popcorner Gourmet Popcorn is freshly made in Wichita, Kansas. The Peanut Butter Crisp is labeled as gluten-free, while the Sour Cream and Cheddar flavor does not specify gluten-free status. The packaging provides information on the available sizes: small (3 cups), medium (6 cups), large (9-10 cups), extra-large (25 cups), and bushel (100 cups). Our sample appears to be the medium size, containing around six cups of popcorn.

Peanut Butter Crisp

The Peanut Butter Crisp popcorn is well-coated and comes with a twist tie for freshness. The first bite reveals a delightful crunch, with a prominent peanut butter flavor and a subtle stickiness. Interestingly, there’s an underlying buttery taste, similar to caramel corn, likely due to the brown sugar listed as the first ingredient. This popcorn offers a rich, buttery peanut butter experience. However, it is quite "holey," meaning it has a lot of hulls, which can be a bit inconvenient.

Sour Cream and Cheddar

Next, we sampled the Sour Cream and Cheddar flavor. This popcorn has a mix of darker and lighter pieces, suggesting different intensities of flavor. The darker pieces have a stronger sour cream taste, while the lighter ones offer a cheesy, buttery flavor. Despite being softer than typical popcorn, it doesn’t feel stale or wet. However, it also has many hulls, which can be bothersome.

Final Thoughts

Both flavors have unique and enjoyable tastes. The Peanut Butter Crisp stands out with its sweet, buttery, and peanutty profile, making it a favorite. The Sour Cream and Cheddar flavor is also enjoyable, with a nice balance of cheese and sour cream, enhanced by a hint of onion powder. The main drawback for both is the abundance of hulls, which can be a choking hazard, especially for children.

In conclusion, Popcorner Gourmet Popcorn offers delicious flavors, but the hulls might be an issue for some. If you decide to try it, make sure to have a drink handy to help with the hulls. Thanks again to Michael for sending us these treats!
