Review: New Pillsbury Trix Waffles

Today, Kevin and I are reviewing the new Pillsbury Trix Waffles, which boast fruity flavors and come in a box of eight crispy golden toaster waffles. We purchased these for $4.29 at Meijer.

Cooking Instructions

These waffles can be prepared using a regular toaster, toaster oven, or conventional oven. The directions vary slightly depending on your method of choice. For our review, we used a traditional toaster. You might need to run the waffles through one or two cycles to heat them thoroughly.

First Impressions

Upon toasting, these waffles smell exactly like Trix cereal, which is quite appealing if you're a fan of the cereal. Each waffle contains 140 calories, which is typical for waffles. Manufactured by General Mills in Minneapolis, Minnesota, these waffles should be kept frozen until ready to use. Notably, microwave preparation is not recommended as it could affect the texture, making them less crispy.

Taste Test

We found the texture to be pleasant—crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. However, the flavor was a point of contention. While Kevin thought the Trix flavor was light and not very distinctive, I believed it captured the Trix taste well, albeit mildly. Eating the waffles with syrup, especially a sugar-free option, enhanced their sweetness but diluted the Trix flavor slightly.

Overall Experience

In conclusion, if you enjoy Trix cereal, you might appreciate these waffles, though they won't replicate the crunch and full experience of the cereal. They are reasonably priced and worth trying at least once. However, if you are expecting a strong, unmistakable Trix flavor, you might be a bit disappointed. For those who prefer a more traditional waffle experience with a hint of fruity flavor, these waffles could be a delightful change.
