Today, Kevin and I are trying various Zotz Fizz Power Sodas. We have four flavors: grape, cherry, blue raspberry, and watermelon. We bought these for $2.39 each at Jungle Jim’s International Market. They are made by Rocket Fizz Soda Pop and Candy Shop, which I would love to visit someday, as they offer a wide variety of sodas and candies. Rocket Fizz is based in Reno, Nevada. We have previously reviewed many products from Rocket Fizz on our channel, including their candy. The Fizz Power Sodas are 12 oz bottles, each containing 170 calories. Let's see how they compare to the Zotz candy we know and love.
Grape Flavor The grape flavor has an unexpected earthy aftertaste. Initially, it tastes like typical grape candy, but then it transitions to a funky, earthy flavor that is quite unusual for grape soda. It lacks the sweetness and slight tartness commonly found in grape sodas. It also does not fizz more than a regular soda. As a fan of grape soda, I found this flavor disappointing.
Cherry Flavor The cherry flavor is also 170 calories. It tastes closer to the Zotz candy but still has an odd aftertaste. It seems like they tried to replicate the fizzy part of Zotz candy, but it doesn’t quite succeed. The flavor is not very sweet, similar to a lifesaver candy. It’s not particularly enjoyable.
Blue Raspberry Flavor The blue raspberry flavor is the best so far. It tastes like those blue ice freeze sticks, sweet and enjoyable without any strange aftertaste. If you like blue ice sticks, this flavor is worth trying. The message under the lid adds a fun touch, although it’s difficult to read.
Watermelon Flavor The watermelon flavor is hit or miss. It tastes more like the white part of a watermelon, which is less sweet and less desirable. It doesn’t resemble the Jolly Rancher watermelon flavor or even the watermelon Zotz. It’s not terrible, but it’s not great either.
Overall Recommendation The only flavor worth buying is the blue raspberry. The other flavors, particularly grape and watermelon, are disappointing and not worth the price. If you ever visit Jungle Jim’s or a Rocket Fizz store, hopefully, this review helps you decide which flavors to try. For those who live near a Rocket Fizz store, I’m curious to know how much these sodas cost there compared to Jungle Jim’s $2.39 price tag.
