Shearer's Kettle Cooked Potato Chips: A Deliciously Crunchy Trio

Today, Kevin and I are excited to review some Shear’s brand kettle potato chips. We have three flavors to try: Original, Sea Salt and Pepper, and Hot Pepper Jalapeno. These chips were only $1.99 at Big Lots, which is a great deal for an 8.5-ounce bag. We've reviewed Shear’s chips before in 2021, and they were priced at $1.25 back then, so there's been a slight increase.

Previously, we tried Cheddar and Sour Cream, Lightly Salted, and Barbecue flavors. It's funny how we tried three flavors back then, and we're doing the same now. Shear’s chips are made in Ohio, but surprisingly, we haven't seen them at Jungle Jim's, which is also in Ohio. Maybe they only had the flavors we've already tried.

You can visit their website at www.shears.com for more information. Shear’s emphasizes their dedication to quality, stating that their search for the perfect potato is still rigorous and their paddle-stirred cooking process remains unchanged. Each crunch of their chips is meant to be unique and delicious.

Now, let's dive into our taste test:

Original Flavor

These chips have a nice crunch and are very potato-forward in flavor. They could use a bit more salt for my taste, but they have a pleasant slight greasiness, which I like. These would be great dipping chips because they’re very crunchy and could hold up to a firm dip.

Sea Salt and Pepper

These chips are only 140 calories for 18 chips, 10 fewer than the original. They have a strong pepper flavor without the typical pepper burn, which is nice. The salt and pepper are well-balanced, making these very addictive. I could eat these all day!

Hot Pepper Jalapeno

These chips have a distinct green jalapeno flavor and a good amount of heat that builds up as you eat more. They’re quite salty, which I like, but the heat might be too intense for some people. If you enjoy spicy snacks, these are worth trying, but they might be too hot to eat regularly.

In conclusion, my favorite flavor is the Sea Salt and Pepper, but if I were to pick a flavor to eat all the time, it would be the Original. The hot pepper jalapeno chips are flavorful, but their heat might be too much for frequent consumption. Have you tried these chips? Let us know your thoughts and where you found them.
