Today, Kevin and I are diving into Sour Puss soda, a super sour treat. We'll be trying three flavors: Fruit Punch, Kiwi Orange, and Blueberry Lemon. Each bottle cost $2.19 at Jungle Jim's International Market.
I picked up these sodas because I hadn't seen these labels before. Once I got home and started this video, I noticed they're made by Avery's Beverages in Connecticut. Avery's is familiar to me because we've reviewed their "Always Ask for Avery's" sodas before, including quirky flavors like Unicorn Yak, Kitty P, Swamp Juice, Alien Snot, Dog Drool, Worm Ooze, Zombie Brain Juice, and Fungal Fruit. If you search "Tammy Dunn Avery soda," you'll find those videos.
Interestingly, Avery's Beverages is behind these new Sour Puss sodas, though you might not connect them without reading the labels.
Sour Puss Fruit Punch
Let's start with the Fruit Punch. This 12 oz bottle doesn't list any calories. How sour will it be?
It’s incredibly sour, making your mouth seize up like you've squirted lemon juice directly in. Surprisingly, it lacks fruit flavor, tasting more like a strong lemonade than fruit punch. It’s on the level of Warheads candy in terms of sourness. The second sip is less shocking and a bit more palatable, resembling a lemony fruit punch.
Sour Puss Kiwi Orange
Next, we have the Kiwi Orange, which is a bright green color. It reminds me of toxic waste.
This one is sour but not as lemony as the Fruit Punch. However, it doesn’t taste distinctly like kiwi or orange. It has a flavor reminiscent of ginger mixed with lime, despite the bright green color.
Sour Puss Blueberry Lemon
Finally, we try the Blueberry Lemon. This one makes your mouth seize up just like the others.
It tastes like blue raspberry, similar to Blue Sour Patch Kids. This flavor is more sweet than sour, making it the least sour of the three for me. It’s still sour but more enjoyable due to its candy-like sweetness.
Final Thoughts
My ranking of these flavors is:
- Kiwi Orange – Despite its misleading name, it has an interesting ginger-lime taste.
- Blueberry Lemon – Sweet and reminiscent of candy.
- Fruit Punch – The most sour but lacking in fruit flavor.
While these sodas are unique, I prefer other Avery's drinks like the whimsically named Kitty P, which had a delightful vanilla cream soda taste. If you’re a fan of sour drinks, Sour Puss soda is definitely worth a try. We didn’t pour these into glasses since the bright colors are visible through the bottles, but I'll include pictures of the labels at the end of the video for a closer look.
