Today, Kevin and I are sampling Benton's brand cookies, available at Aldi. These cookies are unique because they're made with almond flour and come in a variety of flavors: Chocolate Chip, S'mores, Birthday Cake, Strawberry Shortcake, and Snickerdoodle. Each pack costs $2.95 at Aldi, and Benton’s is an Aldi-exclusive brand.
Chocolate Chip
First up, we tried the Chocolate Chip cookies. These cookies are grain-free, gluten-free, and contain 3 grams of net carbs per serving. Each 3-ounce (85g) bag has about 21 tiny cookies, with a serving size of seven cookies at 140 calories. Despite their small size, the cookies were surprisingly crumbly. The texture was very soft, not pasty or gritty. However, the flavor was quite plain, with a light sweetness and a hint of salt. These cookies didn’t really taste like traditional chocolate chip cookies but were still enjoyable for a low-carb snack.
S'mores
Next, we sampled the S'mores cookies, which are slightly higher in calories at 150 per seven-cookie serving. These cookies had a much crisper texture but an odd flavor, likely from the marshmallow. The taste was almost raspberry-like, which was unexpected and unpleasant. The aftertaste was particularly off-putting, making these cookies a definite pass for us.
Birthday Cake
The Birthday Cake cookies, also gluten-free and grain-free, have 130 calories per seven-cookie serving. These cookies had a noticeable coconut flavor, likely from the coconut oil listed twice in the ingredients. While the coconut taste was prominent, it felt somewhat artificial. Overall, these cookies were just okay – not great, but not terrible either.
Strawberry Shortcake
The Strawberry Shortcake cookies were a pleasant surprise. With 140 calories per seven-cookie serving, these cookies had a delightful strawberry aroma reminiscent of a strawberry Pop-Tart. They were crunchy but not hard, and the strawberry flavor was enjoyable. This was the first flavor we’d consider buying again.
Snickerdoodle
Lastly, we tried the Snickerdoodle cookies, which have 140 calories per seven-cookie serving and only 1 gram of net carbs. These cookies had a softer texture similar to the Chocolate Chip ones. The cinnamon flavor was mild, and there was a subtle saltiness that balanced the sweetness. While these were better than some other flavors, they weren’t remarkable.
Conclusion
Out of all the Benton's almond flour cookies, the Strawberry Shortcake stood out as the best. The Chocolate Chip and Snickerdoodle cookies were decent for keto options, but overall, we wouldn’t repurchase these cookies. Aldi offers a wide range of other cookies and snacks, including gluten-free options, that we would recommend over these. For $2.95, you can find more satisfying treats either at Aldi or other stores like Walmart. Save your money and choose a different snack. Thanks for reading our review!
