Today, Kevin and I are reviewing Whole Foods Market’s frozen cookies. These cookies come frozen and require seven minutes in the oven to heat up. Each box costs $6.79 and contains eight cookies.
Unboxing and Initial Impressions
We started with the chocolate chip cookies. Upon opening the box, we noticed that the cookies are full-sized and come in a tray, with an additional piece of cardboard to maintain the box's structure. Surprisingly, the cookies do not come with microwave instructions; the only heating method is to preheat the oven to 350°F, place the cookies on a baking sheet, and bake for exactly seven minutes.
Baking Instructions
We followed the instructions precisely. We used a Reynolds kitchen baking sheet to avoid washing a baking tray. After seven minutes in the oven and a two-minute cooling period, the cookies were ready.
Taste Test: Chocolate Chip
After cooling, the cookies were easy to remove from the tray. We cut one open to inspect the inside. Whole Foods claims these cookies are inspired by a world-famous New York City bakery, promising a gooey center and a chewy texture with crispy edges. However, we found the chocolate chip cookies to be less sweet and not as enjoyable as homemade or store-bought alternatives from Kroger or Walmart. They have a "healthy" taste, which might not appeal to everyone. At 220 calories per cookie, they didn’t justify the 85 cents per cookie price tag.
Taste Test: Double Chocolate
Next, we tried the double chocolate cookies. These also required seven minutes in the oven and a two-minute cooling period. Despite following the instructions to the letter, the cookies seemed almost raw inside. The double chocolate had a richer flavor than the chocolate chip but still lacked the expected sweetness. These cookies didn’t meet our expectations for a satisfying dessert.
Conclusion
Overall, we found Whole Foods Market’s frozen chocolate chip and double chocolate cookies to be underwhelming. They lacked sweetness and did not compare favorably to other store-bought or homemade cookies. We recommend making your own cookies using high-quality chocolate chips from Whole Foods for a more enjoyable and cost-effective treat.
Future Reviews
Stay tuned for our upcoming reviews of Whole Foods’ other frozen cookie flavors, including Snickerdoodle and possibly Lemon Cheesecake. While these chocolate chip and double chocolate cookies fell short, we hope other flavors will fare better.
