Yolélé (Yolele) Fonio Chips: Chili, Onion + Lime, Baobab, Onion + Moringa and Sea Salt Review
Today, Kevin and I are trying Yoli Bono chips. We found these at World Market for $3.74 each, and they come in 5 oz (142 g) bags. We have three flavors: Sea Salt, Tangy Baobab with Onion and Moringa, and Chili Onion and Lime.

First, let's talk about the ingredients. The star ingredient in Yoli Bono chips is fonio, a powerful grain with a rich nutritional profile that has been celebrated for over 5,000 years. Fonio supports communities in West Africa and is grown using regenerative farming practices, making it good for the planet. These chips are gluten-free, potato-free, vegan, kosher, peanut-free, soy-free, tree-nut-free, and free of artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, and trans fats.

Each 1 oz (28 g) serving, which is about 13 chips, contains 140 calories. The chips are distributed from Brooklyn, New York, and you can find more information on their website at yoli.com.

Sea Salt

The Sea Salt flavor is our first tasting. These chips have a unique shape that's perfect for dipping. The flavor is different from typical corn chips; it’s denser and feels more substantial. The amount of salt is just right, and they have a satisfying crunch. These would pair well with salsa.

Tangy Baobab with Onion and Moringa

Next, we tried the Tangy Baobab with Onion and Moringa. Baobab fruit has a pleasant citrus flavor, while moringa adds an earthy, grassy note, similar to matcha. These chips have 130 calories per serving. The dominant flavor is onion, with a hint of citrus from the baobab. The ingredients include spinach, garlic, peppercorn, thyme, and spearmint, giving it a complex and enjoyable flavor.

Chili Onion and Lime

Finally, we sampled the Chili Onion and Lime flavor. This variant is the spiciest, featuring habanero chili, caramelized onion, and lime. Each serving has 140 calories. The lime flavor is very prominent, followed by the heat from the habanero. If you enjoy spicy snacks with a strong lime kick, you'll like these. They would also pair well with salsa.

Overall, we enjoyed trying Yoli Bono chips. Our favorite is the Sea Salt flavor for its simplicity and perfect saltiness. These chips are a great find at World Market, and we recommend experimenting with different flavors if you enjoy unique snacks from around the world.
